Your files never leave your device. Nothing is uploaded to see what is hidden inside them.

About Remove image metadata

Remove image metadata strips EXIF data from a photo: the GPS location, the camera and phone model, the date taken and editing software. The picture is unchanged; the information about it is gone. It takes JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC up to 200 MB, one photo or a batch, and runs in your browser, so the photos are never uploaded.

  • Listing photos of your home
  • Photos sent to strangers

How to remove image metadata

  1. Drop one photo or many

    JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC.

  2. Scrub

Location, device and edit history are removed on your device.

  3. Export

Save the clean photo, or a zip for a batch.

Why your file never leaves your device

Most online tools upload your file to a server, work on it there, and keep a copy for a while. Thryve Photo does the work inside your browser instead, with code that runs on your own device, so there is no upload, no copy on a server and nothing to delete afterwards. Close the tab and the file is gone from memory. It also means the tools keep working on a slow connection once the page has loaded.

Questions, answered

What does a photo reveal about me?
A phone photo usually stores where it was taken, when, and which phone took it. Anyone with the file can read that. Removing the metadata takes it out.
Do WhatsApp and Instagram remove metadata already?
Most big apps strip it on upload, but email, cloud links and many smaller sites do not. Scrubbing first means it does not matter where the photo goes.
Does it change the picture?
No. The pixels are copied as they are; only the metadata is removed.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The photo is opened and processed inside your browser tab, on your own device, and the result is saved straight back to it. Thryve has no server that receives files.
Is it free?
Yes. This page gives 10 free exports every rolling 30 days, with no account. Thryve Pro, $9.99 once with no subscription, removes the limit on every Thryve PDF, Photo, Media and Invoice page.
Do I need to sign up?
No. Drop a file and start. An account is only needed to buy Thryve Pro, so the licence can follow you between devices.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox on Android and iPhone, as well as on Windows, Mac and Linux. Since the work happens on the device, a large file takes longer on a phone than on a laptop.
