About Resize and crop image

Resize and crop image sets a photo to an exact width and height, or to a preset for the place you post, and crops it to fit. It takes JPG, PNG and WebP up to 200 MB, works on one image or a whole batch, and runs in your browser, so the photos never leave your device.

  • Passport-size photo
  • Instagram and YouTube sizes
  • Product photos to one size
  • Profile picture

How to resize and crop image

  1. Drop one image or many

JPG, PNG or WebP. A batch is resized with the same settings.

  2. Set the size

Type a width and height in pixels, or pick a preset such as Instagram post, story, YouTube thumbnail or a cover photo.

  3. Crop and export

Move the crop to frame the subject, then save. Hand the result to Compress or Convert if the file also has to be smaller or in another format.

Why your file never leaves your device

Most online tools upload your file to a server, work on it there, and keep a copy for a while. Thryve Photo does the work inside your browser instead, with code that runs on your own device, so there is no upload, no copy on a server and nothing to delete afterwards. Close the tab and the file is gone from memory. It also means the tools keep working on a slow connection once the page has loaded.

Questions, answered

How do I make a passport-size photo (3.5 × 4.5 cm)?
Set a custom size of 413 × 531 pixels, which is 3.5 × 4.5 cm at 300 dpi, and crop so the face is centred. If a form asks for a different pixel size, such as 200 × 230, type that instead.
Can I resize many photos at once?
Yes. Drop them all; the same size and crop are applied to each and they download together as a zip.
Will resizing make the file smaller?
Smaller dimensions usually mean a smaller file. For a specific size limit, such as 50 KB or 100 KB, pass the result to Compress image next.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The photo is opened and processed inside your browser tab, on your own device, and the result is saved straight back to it. Thryve has no server that receives files.
Is it free?
Yes. This page gives 10 free exports every rolling 30 days, with no account. Thryve Pro, $9.99 once with no subscription, removes the limit on every Thryve PDF, Photo, Media and Invoice page.
Do I need to sign up?
No. Drop a file and start. An account is only needed to buy Thryve Pro, so the licence can follow you between devices.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox on Android and iPhone, as well as on Windows, Mac and Linux. Since the work happens on the device, a large file takes longer on a phone than on a laptop.
